The Greater North Clark Health Foundation was established in 1985 following the sale of the North Clark County Hospital, owned by the city of Charlestown, Indiana. The sale yielded $6,000,000 for the city. Decisions were made so that Charlestown received $5,000,000 and the remaining funds should be used to form a community foundation. As a result of this decision, the Greater North Clark Health Foundation was established as a 501 (c) 3 health care granting foundation benefiting the residents of northern Clark County. The $1,000,000 initial investment in the foundation remains intact. The Foundation’s investments generate funds that are distributed in health care grants and gifts.
Northern Clark County comprises all areas of Clark County outside of Clarksville, Jeffersonville, and Utica. Communities in northern Clark County include but are not limited to Sellersburg, Borden, Charlestown, Otisco, New Washington, Marysville, and Henryville.
